Krafty Kuts “Turbulence”

Released 10 July 2026 on Against The Grain

Krafty Kuts has never chased trends; instead, he’s spent decades shaking them up – it’s a philosophy which has inspired the name of his forthcoming album Turbulence. We take a quick look at how the album came about…

“I love the space where genres collide and create something new – it’s that spark, that excitement of making something unique and shaking things up that has inspired this album”.

– Krafty Kuts

Renowned for turntablism and super-sharp productions, Krafty Kuts has built a reputation as one of the most consistent forces in bass music. From early releases with Ministry of Sound, Fabric and Finger Lickin’ to the foundation of his own Against The Grain label, and as founder of Brighton’s Supercharged, his career reads like a long-form study in British bass music culture.

A selector as much as a technician, he digs deep and blurs the lines between genres with intent. His DJ sets are a genuine journey: one minute Santana, the next Sami Virji. It’s a never-ending drive to keep breaking boundaries.

Now, with his forthcoming album, Krafty Kuts pushes his music production further. This isn’t an album that blends genres—it destabilises them. Pulling from UKG, breaks, bassline and flashes of jazz, Turbulence twists familiar forms into something harder to pin down. The beats are fractured, the low-end rumbling, the energy unpredictable by design.

Take Changes, for example: a four-to-the-floor, bassline-driven banger that effortlessly slips into emotive, soulful vocals before taking another twist into jungle-esque breaks and bass – it’s a masterclass in how keep listeners on the edge of their seat.

Other examples include Curvy, a more UKG-inspired vocal stunner, the bassline tearer New Ting, and the hedonistic energy of All Night – Krafty Kuts has delivered his best album to date.

featured artists

MC SPYDA

A commanding voice in the jungle and drum & bass scene, MC Spyda is best known for tracks like “Tarantula” with Pendulum, “Magic Carpet” with Bou and “Balaclava” with Shy FX. Spyda features on “Running,” and brings his unmistakable energy to a future-focused mid-tempo groover built for smoky dancefloors and late-night systems.

MC B LIVE

Widely respected as one of the original voices of jungle and drum & bass, MC B Live is known for tracks like “F**k Jump Up” and “Nan” with Bou. Joining forces with Krafty Kuts on the track “Best In Me” B Live channels the spirit of early ’90s UK hip hop with an old skool breakbeat roller reminiscent of the Shut Up and Dance era.

Skool of thought

Best known for the cult classic album “Random Acts of Kindness,” Skool of Thought is also co-owner of Against The Grain Records alongside Krafty Kuts, with the pair collaborating for over two decades. Here, they team up with Australian vocalist Liliana Rose on “Flowers” for a lush fusion of jazz, UKG and breaks.

“I’ve never been interested in staying in one lane. For me, it’s about breaking boundaries. The moment you feel comfortable is usually the moment you need to try something different.”
