Natural Selection Album Sampler 2 – out on Beatport
Thursday April 29th 2010.
In the second of three album samplers for Skool of Thought’s ‘Natural Selection’ Bristol dubstep hot shot Phaeleh takes the controls with the super sharp sounds of ‘Selecta’ feat. I-Mitri. Techy stabs, deep bass, crisp drums and a subtle vocal make for a fresh alternative to the over rinsed metallic wobble of many dubstep tunes out there today.
One of the most underrated breaks producers of our time Jinx In Dub lends a hand on remix duties with more pin point accurate production, rolling out a fine piece of of dubwise breaks and bass.
But perhaps the most talked about track in this package is the remix of a tune which raised the bar for breaks many years ago. The original version of ‘Slammer’ by the Freestylers was a seminal track for not only Against The Grain but also breaks as a whole, propelling the genre into the lime light with support from Roni Size and Pete Tong. It has remained untouchable for many years, a reliable, timeless classic for DJs to rely on, who would dare to touch such a well known anthem? Answer: London breaks wiz kid Affinity. Rated by many of the scene’s tog dogs as the next one to watch, his remix has picked up full club support and radio play. Watch this one blow!
